Kitabi Masti, which translates to “Fun with Books” in Hindi, began as a humble initiative. Muskan started with just 25 books hung on a string outside her house. The colorful images of the books attracted the children in the neighborhood, who soon began visiting her house regularly to read.
As Muskan recalls:
“I was nine years old when I started this library … I had collected some books which I displayed outside my house by hanging them on a rope. In 2017, Muskan was awarded a grant by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to fund the development of the library. The space was creatively renovated using waste materials by architecture students from the National Association of Students of Architecture.
Through contributions from various parts of India, as well as countries like the United States, South Africa, and other nations, the library has grown to house over 3,000 books.
